SSC has a new 10-year contract to build and manage a satellite network portal (SNP) in Northwest Canada for OneWeb. The site is currently under construction and will serve as a gateway for OneWeb satellite broadband internet in Canada, with 27 antenna bases once it is completed by the end of this year.

The new site will be built in Yellowknife on the traditional territory of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation and the Det’on Cho Environmental will be providing local guidance on environmental assessments and permitting. SSC and OneWeb said the project is an investment in the region, and will ensure that connectivity benefits the local city and  broader territory.

Telco Northwestel will provide the ground connectivity to support the SNP.

“Canada is one of the first countries to have access to a LEO Network and is a top priority market for OneWeb,” commented Howard Stanley, vice president of Americas for OneWeb. “We are proud to be providing Canada with a robust solution to the decades-long problem it has faced in delivering connectivity to remote regions.”
