ThinKom ThinAir GT Antenna Secures Government Certification for O3b mPower

ThinKom’s ThinAir GT2517 terminal is the first airborne antenna to complete SES’s Government Technology Certification (GTC) to operate on SES’s O3b mPOWER constellation. The ThinAir GT2517 is a Ka-band terminal designed for special mission intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft.

This certification means the terminal can be deployed across SES Space and Defense (SESSD) assets, including Geostationary (GEO) and Non-Geostationary orbit (NGSO) satellites. ThinKom announced the certification on Monday.

During the certification process, SES Space and Defense’s terminal manager software module was integrated into the GT2517 offering, providing SESSD scheduling and resource allocation. The Type 3 certification includes ThinKom’s GT2517 antenna integrated with the Hughes HM400 software-defined modem.

“This latest technology certification builds upon our mission to provide government partners with the highest-performing, secure and flexible connectivity solutions, while preventing adversarial interference,” said Bill Milroy, ThinKom CTO. “The addition of O3b mPower to the GT2517’s available GEO and NGSO connectivity options ensures that secure, resilient, multi-orbit service is readily available for the broadest range of airborne operations and missions.”

ThinKom said it is also planning for certification of its GT1717 terminal and additional modem configurations.
