[Via Satellite 03-23-2015] Hughes Network Systems received an order for its Jupiter system to serve as the foundation network for a large oil wellhead-monitoring project. The customer, based in the Middle East, will use a network of two Jupiter gateways and more than 600 ruggedized Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) satellite terminals. Hughes has designed the terminals specifically for this application, which stretches across hundreds of miles of desert.

The Jupiter system features a high density and robust gateway architecture with lights-out operation, an enhanced IPoS air interface, and high-throughput terminals. It is based on a System on a Chip (SoC) along with an advanced Very-Large-Scale Integration (VLSI) processor that uses a multi-core architecture capable of throughputs reaching 100 Mbps on every terminal within the Jupiter family.
