The seventh Ariane 5 to be launched from French Guiana this year carrying the Skynet 5D and Mexsat 3 telecommunication satellites is beginning to take shape. Initial build-up has started at the Spaceport for its mid-December launch.

Skynet 5D will ride in the rocket’s upper payload slot to be deployed first. It weights approximately 11,000 pounds and it will carry X-band transponders that provide voice and data communications for military operations in Europe, Australia, and for the NATO.

Mexsat 3, produced by Orbital Science, will be installed as the lower passenger. It weights approximately 6,700 pounds and it will extender C-band and Ku-band transponders for Mexico’s communication services. It’s expected to operate for more than 15 years.
