Report: Mobile TV Market Set for Strong Growth by 2015
[Satellite TODAY 02-23-10] Mobile satellite TV market revenues are projected to reach $11 billion by 2015, driven by the growing consumer demand for video content on an anytime, anywhere basis, according to a Global Industry Analysts (GIA) report, released Feb. 22.
The report, “Mobile Satellite Television: A Global Strategic Business Report,” said that despite limited audience and service coverage, the market for mobile television provides opportunities for content providers, mobile operators and handset manufacturers, specifically in developing countries like Brazil, China and India. “The development of interoperable standards and availability of free spectrum space is expected to encourage the development of high-quality content for mobile television. … Japan and South Korea represent the leading markets for mobile TV services in the Asia-Pacific region, while China and India offer the enormous growth opportunities for market participants,” the report said.
European markets will be driven by affordable satellite-based mobile video technology solution, such as MediaFLO and DVB-H, according to GIA. Satellite-based services are forecast to foster growth by offering affordable solutions for reliable and high-quality delivery of mobile TV services in Europe.
