Euroconsult: MSS Players See Growth Despite Slow Economy
[Satellite Today 10-12-09] MSS operators reported increased revenues of about 8 percent in 2008 to more than $1.2 billion, Euroconsult announced.
Inmarsat held a 51 percent market share in 2008, and Iridium was the only MSS operator to significantly increase its market share in the last two years, to around 26 percent, according to “Mobile Satellite Communications Markets Survey, Prospects to 2018,” released Oct. 7.
“Despite the adverse economic environment, MSS operators’ core market — critical mobile communications where terrestrial networks are not available — has been robust. Needs for better broadband communications and remote control of assets are key growth drivers for the MSS industry going forward. Increasing demand in emerging MSS regions such as Asia will also contribute to growth,” Pacôme Revillon, Euroconsult’s CEO, said in a statement.
