NASA gave Science Applications International Corp. [SAI] a $58 million, one-year contract change to provide safety and mission assurance at Johnson Space Center in Houston.

SAIC will ensure safety, reliability, maintainability, and quality in the International Space Station program, the space shuttle program and the Constellation Program that is developing the next-generation U.S. spaceship that in 2015 will begin manned flights, replacing the shuttles that retire next year.

This cost-plus-award-fee contract option continues services from May 1 through April 30 next year. Work under the contract will be performed at Johnson, Kennedy Space Center, Fla., and at the White Sands Test Facility in New Mexico.

Significant subcontractors in the work include Futron Corp. of Bethesda, Md.; GHG of Houston; M.H. Chew of Livermore, Calif.; URS – Washington Division of Princeton, N.J.; Management Technology Associates of Huntsville, Ala.; J&P Technologies of Houston; JES Tech of Houston; SoHaR Inc. of Culver City, Calif.; and Texas Southern University of Houston.

This $58 million contract extension follows a separate $58 million pact involving Johnson that was announced last month.

NASA awarded a contract worth up to $58 million for administrative support services at Johnson. The deal went to REDE/Critique NSS, Joint Venture, of New Orleans.

That contract begins May 4 and has a three-year base period of service that includes two one-year extension options. (Please see Space & Missile Defense Report, Monday, March 16, 2009.)
