Cyfrowy Polsat, a digital satellite pay-TV platform in Poland, has launched a mobile phone service, Rodzinna Telefonia Komorkowa (Family Cellular Telephony), based on its own telecommunications infrastructure using network solutions from Nokia Siemens Networks, Cyfrowy Polsat announced.
Under a five-year contract, Nokia Siemens Networks has supplied a mobile virtual network operator platform comprised of packet core equipment, applications and network management tools as well as a broad range of services within the build-operate-transfer arrangement to allow Cyfrowy Polsat to offer the mobile service.
The system is ready to serve about 200,000 end-users, and the agreement provides for possible extensions of the telecommunications platform functionality to adapt it to a growing number of subscribers, Cyfrowy Polsat said.
