Launched on a dedicated satellite in April, the system is providing comprehensive advanced AIS data, which Com Dev claims enables a level of global vessel detection that is not achievable by any other known space-based system. Com Dev said the trial has validated its predicted performance levels over large coverage areas.
The data collected also is being used to validate vessel traffic densities and to characterize any potential interference sources.
