[Satellite Today – 2-7-08] German pay-TV operator Premiere is fighting a major security breach in Germany, the company said Feb. 6.
The operator, which has around 3.5 million subscribers, has been using a security system provided by the Kudelski Group to combat hackers that “have successfully circumvented the encryption system with modified digital receivers, enabling them to watch pay-TV programming illegally.”
As a result of this security breach, Premiere will introduce a new generation of smart cards in the second quarter, the company said.
