Grass Valley will supply its Argos MPEG-4 AVC mobile TV encoders from Thomson for use in Sirius Satellite Radio’s TV offering, Thomson announced May 30. The encoder is designed to handle very low bit rates while enabling flexible frame rate encoding.
"We chose Grass Valley Argos encoders because of their superior design, video quality, redundancy scheme, and overall flexibility,” said Terry Smith, Sirius’ senior vice president of engineering.
The value of the contract was not released.
