SkyNet-5A, the first of three military communications satellites for the U.K. Ministry of Defense, has entered service, Astrium announced May 10. Through subsidiary Paradigm Secure Communications, Astrium is the prime contractor for the Skynet 5 program, and Paradigm holds a contract to operate the satellites until 2020.
