Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. has entered into an agreement with Proxim Wireless Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Terabeam Inc., to offer WiMAX, Wi-Fi Mesh and other broadband wireless access solutions, Gilat announced May 7.

The agreement is part of Gilat’s strategy to expand its product portfolio leveraging its global sales, project implementation, satellite backhaul solutions and local support capabilities.

Gilat has established a wireless solutions department to be headed by Tal Meirzon, who also will continue to serve as Gilat Network System’s vice president of business development.

Gilat’s received its first broadband wireless access order from Asiainfo, an Internet service provider in Kyrgyzstan that recently deployed a SkyEdge broadband satellite hub.

Financial details of the deal were not released.
