ViaSat Inc. and DRS Technologies Inc. demonstrated an Internet Protocol (IP) data connection linking the cockpit of an F/A-18 jet fighter to a ground network, the companies announced.

In the test, the aircrew used an advanced technology, forward-looking infrared camera to record video which in combat could be used for intelligence and reconnaissance missions to identify and locate targets, enemy movements, or friendly forces.

The demonstration was conducted under a contract with the U.S. Navy’s Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command and Program Executive Office for C4I.
