Starsys Inc., a subsidiary of SpaceDev, has completed testing of part of the antenna-pointing gimbal for the GeoEye-1 imaging satellite, SpaceDev announced Feb. 12.

The antenna-pointing gimbal reduces motion created by spacecraft operations and will allow GeoEye-1 to collect images and transmit data to ground stations simultaneously. Starsys is developing and qualifying the gimbal and control electronics under a $2 million contract.

GeoEye-1 is being built for GeoEye by General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems and is scheduled to be launched in the 2007 third quarter.
