Sea Launch has set the launch of the NSS-8 communications satellite for SES New Skies for Jan. 26, Sea Launch announced. The 37-minute launch window opens at 6:22 p.m. EDT.
The launch had been delayed by a day due to sea conditions slowing delivery of the payload. Sea Launch performs its missions from a floating platform at the equator.
NSS-8 is a Boeing 702 spacecraft carrying 56 C-band and 36 Ku-band transponders. The spacecraft will replace NSS-703 at 57° East and provide corporate communications, government and military networks, broadband Internet services and broadcast applications to countries in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Indian subcontinent.
