Globalstar Unveils Smaller, Lighter Handsets

Globalstar Inc. introduced its next-generation satellite telephone handset.
The GSP-1700, manufactured by Qualcomm, weighs about 7.1 ounces — about half the weight of the Globalstar’s current satellite handset — and is nearly 45 percent smaller by volume.
Globalstar has begun a progressive rollout of the new handset and also plans to introduce accessories enabling usage for land-based and marine applications.

Astrotel  New Ku PLL

Astrotel International Ltd. introduced a new phase lock loop (PLL) Ku LNB. Operating in three different frequencies across the standard Ku bandwidth, the new model offers a high stability and a noise figure of only 0.7. The unit includes a transmit reject filter.
Astrotel, which has distributed satellite-TV hardware since 1988, operates regional sales and distribution VSAT hubs in the United Kingdom and Mexico. The new unit will have limited stock availability during early 2007. Micro-Ant Announces Blade Technology

Micro-Ant Inc. has unveiled its Blade technology, which is applied to microstrip antennas in order to enhance electrical performance and allow for smaller, cheaper and easier production and use.
Micro-Ant claims Blade technology increases overall antenna efficiency, allowing an antenna to be considerably smaller than traditional designs while meeting similar performance requirements. The company has used the technology in commercial and consumer applications including GPS tracking and satellite-based voice, radio and high-speed Internet.
