Eutelsat Communications announced Oct. 2 that its Hotbird-3 satellite will begin operations from its new orbital slot at 10 degrees East before the end of October.

The satellite, renamed Eurobird-10, will allow Eutelsat to support development of digital television, data and broadband markets in Eurasia and Africa, Giuliano Berretta, CEO of Eutelsat, said in a statement.

Eurobird-10 is being replaced at 13 degrees East by Hotbird-8, which began operations Oct. 3.
