BSkyB announced a key contract as it looks to ramp up its triple-play operations in the United Kingdom.

Easynet, which BSkyB acquired in 2005, awarded a multi-million dollar contract to telent PLC to manage the volume deployment of access equipment as part of Easynet’s Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) program. LLU allows telcos to use the telephone connections from the telephone exchange’s central office to the customer premises.

Under the contract, telent will manage, install and commission the expansion of Easynet’s LLU footprint. Telent also will supply all installation materials.

The contract will help pave the way for BSkyB’s planned 400 million British pound ($760.9 million) rollout of terrestrial broadband services, which the satellite operator unveiled in July.
