VoIP Venture Begun From DirecTV, Hicks Holdings Deal
Vistula Communications Services, a supplier of voice-over-Internet protocol (VoIP) services to telecommunications carriers and Internet service providers, today announced the selection of its V-Cube platform by DirecPath to run a pilot program for delivery of DirecPath’s consumer VoIP service offerings.
DirecPath was recently formed by Hicks Holdings and DirecTV Group to provide bundled DirecTV programming, broadband voice and data and security services to multiple dwelling units (MDU) and gated-community owners across the United States.
Vistula will allow DirecPath to manage communications services to a range of MDU and gated-community properties, and add to its bundled services the benefits of a VoIP infrastructure.
DirecTV is expected to use the new service as part of a triple-play TV, Internet and telephone bundle so as to better compete with its cable rivals.
Initially Vistula will run a six-month pilot program; upon such completion Vistula intends to provide VoIP service across a large portion of DirecPath’s customer base, the company said.
