BSkyB added 389,000 subscribers in its 2006 financial year to close with 8.2 million subscribers, the U.K. pay-TV provider announced July 28. The company’s revenues improved 8 percent to 4.1 billion British pounds ($7.6 billion), while operating provide grew 7 percent to 877 million pounds ($1.6 billion).

“The business and the team have performed well delivering good levels of customer growth in line with our plans and strong growth in both revenues and profitability,” James Murdoch, the company’s chief executive, said in a statement. “We have a clear vision for the future growth and direction of our business and we feel encouraged by the strong demand our customers show for new entertainment and communications services. With a continued focus on providing more choice, flexibility and control, we feel confident as we look ahead to the substantial opportunity this market holds for us.”
