Mercury Computer Systems Inc. received an $8.6 million contract from an unnamed company to provide a communication platform for a commercial ground-based satellite beam- forming application, the company announced July 20.

The platform will supply signal processing resources and high-speed communications infrastructure for ancillary terrestrial component (ATC) services. ATC services are being rolled out by several Mobile Satellite Service companies and use a series of terrestrial repeaters to augment the satellite signal.

In its full configuration, Mercury’s will interconnect more than 100 field-programmable gate arrays to deliver signals.
