Lockheed Martin awarded Spacedev a contract to supply components for the U.S. Navy’s Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) program, Spacedev announced July 12.

Under the initial award, Spacedev will provide two standard A2100 5-meter antenna gimbal assemblies, four Ka-band antenna gimbal assemblies and two 14-meter gimbal assemblies for two fight shipsets. The contract, which includes options for components for three additional spacecraft, could be worth more than $6 million.

MUOS, a next-generation narrowband tactical satellite communications system, will replace the Ultra High Frequency Follow-On system and is intended to improve ground communications for U.S. forces on the move.
