Boeing announced June 21 that the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES-N) satellite has reached its orbital slot and now is controlled by NASA. The satellite has been renamed GOES-13 and will undergo a six-month on-orbit test.

Boeing built and launched the first of three next-generation satellites for NASA and the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in May. The multi- mission GOES series of satellites will provide NOAA and NASA scientists with data to support weather, solar and space operations, and will enable future science improvements with weather prediction and remote sensing. GOES-N also will provide data on global climate changes.
