A Russian Proton rocket placed the Kazsat satellite into orbit June 18 for the government of Kazakhstan, according to Russian press reports. The satellite, built by Russia’s Khrunichev, carries 12 Ku-band transponders and is designed to provide broadcasting and fixed telephony services across Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and parts of Russia.
