Irdeto is teaming up with leading African direct-to-home platform operator Multichoice to trial a new digital video broadcasting – handheld (DVB-H) service in Africa.

Irdeto’s mobile broadcast security solution has been selected to protect the DVB-H trials of South African broadcasting companies Multichoice and M-Net. The trial, which started in late 2005 under a test license, is taking place in Soweto, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban.

The South African companies will be among only a few in the world with DVB-H-enabled mobile phones tuned in to full live coverage of the 2006 World Cup.

The Irdeto Mobile Broadcast CA solution, was first implemented by South Korean operator TU Media for its satellite digital multimedia broadcasting service launched in May 2005.
