Advantech Completes Acquisition Of EMS Technologies Division
Advantech Advanced Microwave Technologies Inc. completed the acquisition of the Satellite Networks group from EMS Technologies Inc., the companies announced March 9. Advantech, based in Montreal, manufactures satellite and terrestrial wireless communication equipment.
The unit, which has been renamed the Advantech Satnet division, is a leader in DVB-RCS systems. “Since we first announced this transfer, we have had a fantastic reaction from the market and a number of major contract wins, both military and commercial, which will be announced shortly,” David Gelerman, chairman and CEO of Advantech, said in a statement. “The recent policy announcement of the U.S. Department of Defense mandating DVB-RCS, DVB-S2 and MIL-STD-188-165A standards compliance, demonstrates that Advantech has squarely hit the target with our technology strategies.”
Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed, though EMS said in December when the deal was announced that it expected to record an impairment charge of about $2.5 million on the assets in the fourth quarter and may recognize additional losses through discontinued operations.
