Arianespace, SpaceX Again Set Launch Dates
Arianespace and Space Explorations Technologies Corp. (SpaceX) have again set dates for their oft-delayed launches. Arianespace now plans to launch its heavy-lift Ariane 5 ECA with Hisdesat‘s Spainsat and Eutelsat‘s Hot Bird 7A March 9. The launch window opens at 7:06 p.m. local time in French Guiana.
SpaceX set a tentative launch window for its inaugural Falcon 1 mission that extends from March 20 through March 25. SpaceX is awaiting a shipment of liquid oxygen, as well as replacing the second stage tank after discovering a leak. SpaceX tentatively plans to perform a static fire test of the rocket March 17.
The mission, which will take place from Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands, will carry the U.S. Air Force Academy‘s Falconsat-2 into orbit.
