Lockheed Martin‘s Advanced Technology Center received a contract from NASA to manufacture an instrument for the GOES-R environmental satellites, Lockheed Martin announced Feb. 22. Under the $2 million contract, Lockheed Martin will provide the Geostationary Lightning Mapper, which will monitor convection on a global scale. The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration manages the GOES program, and the first GOES-R launch is scheduled for 2012.
