EuroNews Gains 20
NTU, the Ukrainian public broadcaster, has become a shareholder in EuroNews. It has become the 20th shareholder of EuroNews with its acquisition of 1 percent of share capital in SECEMIE holding company. EuroNews is one of the main international news channels in Europe with more than four million viewers daily via cable and satellite and three million via terrestrial rebroadcasts in 18 European countries. The channel was originally launched in 1993 in five languages.
In terms of the deal with NTU, the broadcaster will now have the rights to broadcast EuroNews via its terrestrial channel across the Ukraine. EuroNews will at first broadcast in Russian. EuroNews will also examine the possibility of a new language version in Ukrainian. Ukraine is a huge potential market with a population of around 48 million people.
