Ex-Aramiska CEO Philippe Bodart believes the future for satellite broadband in the United Kingdom is limited, if any future exists at all.

Aramiska, a pan-European satellite broadband operator, abruptly shut down its service at the end of January, unable to compete with terrestrial broadband providers and leaving its customers scrambling to find replacement service.

“I don’t see how you can sustain an economic model,” Bodart told Satellite News. “You already have millions of people that are on terrestrial broadband networks and those costs will continue to go down. I don’t see how a satellite offer can compete with that. I don’t see much of a future for satellite broadband in the U.K.”

An exclusive in-depth interview with Philippe Bodart can be found in the February 6th issue of Satellite News. For more information about subscribing to Access Intelligence’s satellite newsletters, check out our Web site at https://www.satellitetoday.com
