Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) has begun construction of Telstar 11N, a new multi-region Ku-band communications satellite, for Loral Skynet. Both companies are subsidiaries of Loral Space & Communications.

Scheduled to begin operations in the second quarter of 2008, Telstar 11N, based on the 1300 platform, will provide service across North and Central America, Europe, Africa and the maritime Atlantic Ocean Region from its orbital slot at 37.5 degrees West. The satellite will complement Skynet’s Telstar 12 satellite at 15 degrees West, which provides Ku- band trans-Atlantic coverage.
