MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. announced Jan. 24 that Collecte Localisation Satellites (CLS) of Toulouse, France, signed a contract for imagery provided by the Radarsat-2 satellite.

The data will be used by French maritime authorities to detect illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing ships in areas in the South Indian Ocean around Kerguelen Island, a French territory.

Radarsat-2 is scheduled to be launched in December. CLS currently uses imagery provided by Radarsat-1, and the contract includes upgrades to the existing receiving and processing infrastructure to accommodate Radarsat-2 data.
