High Winds Push NASA Pluto Launch To Jan. 18
The launch of NASA’s New Horizons mission to Pluto was delayed 24 hours due to high winds at the launch site at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla.
The launch of the Atlas 5 rocket, the first mission of the year for International Launch Services, was rescheduled for Jan. 18, with the launch window opening at 1:15 p.m. EST and running until 3:15 p.m. EST.
The satellite, NASA first mission to Pluto, will use multiple instruments to study the planet and its moon Charon. The spacecraft is expected to arrive at Pluto in 2015.
