The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) plans to launch a series of dedicated small satellite scientific missions, according to Indian press reports.

The Small Satellites for Atmospheric and Space Sciences (SSASS) mission would replace instruments currently carried by rockets and balloons, providing permanent sensors for the observations, according to a report in UNI. The satellites would monitor aerosols in the atmosphere, the impact of biomass burning and forest fires, water vapor, soil moisture and sea surface salinity, among other observations.
