Eumetsat, the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites, has begun commissioning operations for the second of its new generation of weather satellites, Meteosat Second Generation (MSG-2).

Eumetsat has taken control of MSG-2 from the European Space Operations Centre, which was responsible for early in-orbit operations following the Dec. 21 launch of the satellite. The first image from MSG-2 is expected later in January.
