Worldspace Satellite Radio said Dec. 5 it launched subscription service in Chandigarh, the capital of India’s Punjab state. Chandigarh, the ninth city Worldspace has rolled out service to in 2005, has a population of nearly 1 million, making it an ideal target for expansion, Worldspace said.
In a separate announcement, Worldspace said Dec. 6 it has teamed with global content providers, including BBC World Service, TWI and Radio Mid-Day, to deliver India’s first all-sports channel. The Play channel will feature cricket, as well as coverage of other sports such as Formula One racing, tennis, rugby, soccer, hockey and golf.
