Globalstar LLC said Dec. 6 that Elsacom, an independent gateway operator and Globalstar service distributor in Central and Eastern Europe, won a 20 million euro ($23.6 million) contract to provide mobile satellite telephone service to the Italian government. Elsacom will provide Globalstar satellite voice and data services, as well as supply and maintain Globalstar mobile satellite handsets.
In other Globalstar news, Delta Wave Communications said its new ST2900FIP portable satellite phone system is now a Globalstar-certified product. The unit is designed for the offshore oil and gas industry.
