Mobile Satellite Ventures (MSV) received a patent from European Patent Office for ancillary terrestrial component (ATC) technology that will be used in the formation of a hybrid satellite/wireless communications network, MSV announced Dec. 1.

The European patent relates to ATCs based on GSM or CDMA wireless technologies and covers the United Kingdom, France, Sweden, Finland, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, the Netherlands, Italy and Germany.

MSV received a similar patent in the United States earlier this year and announced in October the completion of its first hybrid network proof-of-concept trial.
