JSAT is stepping up its plans in the high-definition arena through a trial of Tandberg Television‘s advanced compression technology. The trial, funded by the Japanese government, is designed to test the suitability of MPEG-4 AVC high-definition technology for the Japanese satellite market.

The trial expands upon JSAT’s previous deployment of Tandberg Television’s digital TV solutions for content distribution. JSAT delivers content for customers such as Sky PerfecTV, Japan’s largest satellite digital broadcasting service with a subscriber base of 3.9 million.
