Lockheed Martin said Nov. 8 it delivered the second of eight GPS Block 2R satellite to Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., where it will be readied for a scheduled Jan. 26 launch.

The upgraded GPS satellites include a modernized antenna panel that provides increased signal power to receivers on the ground, two new military signals for improved accuracy, enhanced encryption and anti-jamming capabilities for the military, and a second civil signal that will provide users with an open access signal on a different frequency.

The first modernized GPS 2R satellite was launched in September and is expected to be declared fully operational in January.
