Venezuela signed an agreement Nov. 1 to buy a satellite from China, the Venezuelan Ministry of Science and Technology announced.

The Simon Bolivar Satellite will provide telecommunications services such as telephony and Internet access, as well as provide support for natural disaster recovery and provide telemedicine and distance learning services. The expected lifetime of the spacecraft, scheduled to be launched in 2008 from China, is 15 years.
