Lockheed Martin completed the preliminary design review for the U.S. Navy‘s Mobile User Objective System (MUOS), the company announced Oct. 26. The review validated the MUOS design to ensure that the next-generation narrowband tactical satellite communications system meets warfighter requirements.

MUOS will provide improved and assured communications, using third-generation mobile technology to provide voice, data and video services. The system also will have the ability to increase capacity and add new features throughout the life of the program.

The next step will be the critical design review phase, as well as the purchase of long lead products in preparation of the start of production in late 2006.
