World Communications Center (WCC) said Oct. 24 the state of Alaska renewed its contract with WCC to supply satellite communications services for state government and agencies.

WCC said it received the contract extension after helping the Alaskan government standardize its communications on the Iridium system beginning in 2004. As the transition progressed, Alaska’s need for satellite communications increased, prompting an extension to the contract, which has up to five years in options.

WCC will continue to supply Iridium voice and data services, including text messaging, paging, short-burst data and standard Iridium data connections, as well as options for the latest tracking and remote monitoring services.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
