BSkyB Acquires Easynet
U.K. direct-to-home satellite television operator BSkyB announced Oct. 21 an agreement to acquire aDSL service provider Easynet for 211 million pounds ($373.6 million), a move that one analyst sees as a positive move.
BSkyB will offer 175 ($3.09) pence for each Easynet share, an 81 percent premium on the closing price of 96.5 ($1.70) pence for each Easynet share Oct. 14, the last business day prior to the commencement of the offer and a 38 percent premium on the closing price of 127 ($2.24) pence Oct. 20, the last business day prior to the announcement of the deal
BSkyB said the acquisition will bring it an established presence in the U.K. broadband market, including a leading position in local loop unbundling in the United Kingdom with 232 local exchanges unbundled and an attractive source for new customers for BSkyB.
