U.S. Players Target Rural Market For Launch Of IPTV Via Satellite
Satellite players in the United States have begun to deploy and offer Internet protocol television (IPTV) services in hopes of tapping into new revenue streams, Northern Sky Research said in its latest market survey and forecast report: “IPTV Via Satellite: Assessing the Market Opportunity for Satellite Delivered IPTV Services.”
The United States is touted as one of the most lucrative markets for IPTV. A handful of satellite players have signed partnership agreements and deployed infrastructure that will give them a head start over what is expected to be a limited field of participants. Initial demand for IPTV is expected to be generated in rural communities, a natural market for satellite-delivered services. High income levels, television viewing preferences and rising broadband penetration levels make rural America one of the most natural markets for IPTV via satellite, Northern Sky said.
In the United States, Northern Sky projects $436.7 million in total revenue for IPTV from 2005 through 2010.
