Caprock Communications entered into strategic alliance with Seattle-based Seamobile Inc. to provide a bundled offering of satellite-based broadband communications and mobile wireless services for the cruise line and commercial maritime industries, Caprock announced Oct. 18.

The joint service will allow customers onboard a vessel to use their own mobile phone or wireless device. Cruise ship lines and ship captains will be able deliver new applications directly to the customer through a variety of devices such as cell phones, wireless-enabled PDAs and laptops. The system also provides crews access to e-mail and the Internet through high-speed broadband connections.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
