Saft announced Oct. 4 that Orbital Sciences Corp. ordered lithium-ion batteries for the Panamsat PAS-11 satellite, and the Horizons-2 satellite being built for the Panamsat/JSat Corp. joint venture. The rechargeable batteries will deliver the satellite power during two eclipse seasons per year, when the spacecraft is blocked from the sun. Both flightsets are scheduled to be delivered in 2006.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
