L-3 Captures Pair Of Military Space Contracts
L-3 Communications captured a pair of contracts to provide components for military satellite communications programs, the company announced.
L-3 Communication Systems-East received a contract from Lockheed Martin to design and develop the transmission security/communications security unit for the U.S. Navy’s Mobile User Objective System (MUOS). Under the $11 million contract, L-3 will deliver two flight units and a spare in 2007. The contract also includes three production options valued at an additional $6 million.
Lockheed Martin Space Systems is the prime contractor and system integrator for MUOS, a next-generation tactical satellite communications system intended to provide secure voice, video and data services to mobile warfighters.
Separately, L-3 Communications announced that that U.S. Joint Forces Command’s Joint Systems Integration Command procured three satellite antenna systems. The Ku-band terminal systems will initially be used by the U.S. Army in proof-of-concept exercises and the placed into the field to provide communications on the move. The value of the order was not released.
