Roadpost Inc. unveiled Sept. 27 a new pricing schedule for its Iridium satellite prepaid services and introduced an option to extend the expiration period for unused minutes. The company said it is lowering prices to help meet growing demand, as well as growing use by travelers that are more frequently going to places outside of terrestrial wireless and wireline communications.

Depending on the value of the card, prices for satellite services are as low as 85 cents per minute. The plans start at $135 for 75 minutes and go as high as $4,250 for 5,000 minutes. Extension periods for unused minutes can be provided in increments of 30 or 90 days.

“The demand for prepaid satellite services has grown tremendously following the disasters that have hit the southern United States in 2004 and 2005,” Roadpost President and CEO Morris Shawn said in a statement. “People have come to realize that satellite service can provide a critical lifeline in the event of an emergency and also can play a key role in supporting business continuity planning.”
